How to Use the Chevy Student Driver Technology
When your children begin to drive, you can’t help but worry about them as they are taking another step into adulthood. Inexperienced drivers can form bad habits quickly, and these habits can have drastic consequences. Chevy has come up with a solution for parents that will allow you to counsel your young driver and help them develop habits that will protect them on the road.
What is Chevy Teen Driver Technology?
The Chevy Teen Driver Technology is an available built-in system that allows you to set limits on the vehicle and records data on the teen driver’s performance. It will keep track of information such as distance traveled, maximum speed, and whether any of the advanced safety features were activated. The Chevrolet Teen Driver Technology features elements such as the industry's first Buckle-to-Drive system that will not allow the vehicle to shift out of park for 20 seconds if the driver is not buckled.
Other features include an audio volume limiter and an automatic mute that only disengages when both driver and front passenger have their seat belts securely fastened. If the driver is speeding, it will be monitored in the vehicle report card, and a speed warning will appear on the dashboard. The maximum speed a teen driver can reach with this system is 85 mph, making sure that they aren’t engaging in unsafe driving habits.
Where to Access the Teen Driver System?
This system is easily found in the settings menu of the infotainment system under the “Vehicle” section. You will be able to set up the audio limiter and speed limiter in this menu and designate your child’s keys as the teen driver.
Nearly every new Chevrolet vehicle comes with this feature available, so if you would like to find one for your new driver, come to Hawk Chevy in Joliet!
