Steps to Prep Your Car for a Summer Roadtrip
Summer’s here, and after months of being cooped up, many of you are ready to hit the road for a great summer trip. At Hawk Chevy, your Chevrolet dealer near Bolingbrook, we want everything to go smoothly for you, and we’ve put together this list of car-care tips. Before you hit the road for that long-awaited trip, check the following.
6) AC
7) Wiper blades and wiper fluid
Replace old blades that streak the windshield, and refill the windshield washer reservoir.
1) Tires and tire pressure
Check all your tires including the spare, and look for cuts, gouges or sidewall bulges. Insert a penny in the treads, and if you see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to replace them. Check the tire pressure when the tires are cool. If they’re original tires, inflate to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. If replacements, inflate to the pressure on the tire’s sidewalls.
2) Brakes
When driving, if you hear any grinding or feel any vibration, of if the brakes feel “mushy,” have your mechanic check for fluid leaks and also inspect the pads, rotors, shoes and drums.
3) Battery
Make sure all cable connections are clean and tight, and if the battery is over three years old, consider replacing it.
4) Fluids
Make sure your oil, engine coolant, and brake, transmission and power steering fluids are at the correct levels.
5) Belts and hoses
These are essential for proper operation of your car. Replace any that are cracked, glazed or frayed.
6) AC
If it’s not cooling your car, have your mechanic add refrigerant.
7) Wiper blades and wiper fluid
Replace old blades that streak the windshield, and refill the windshield washer reservoir.
These things done, you should be ready for the road, and when you’re ready for a new or used vehicle, always think first of Hawk Chevy, your Chevrolet dealer near Bolingbrook.
